New Music > Bez & Sene: Big Promise

OkayAfrica have teamed up with Converse Rubber Tracks to create Player Xchange, a new series curated by Okayplayer and Okayafrica in which they will be linking up African artists from around the continent with emerging American acts to write and record an original song.

The first collaboration,”Big Promise,” features Nigerian pop crooner Bez – whom you might recall from his hit “That Stupid Song”- and Brooklyn-bred rapper/producer Sene. Questlove, of legendary hiphop band The Roots, says the project will offer an alternative to televised music competitions like “American Idol” and “The Voice.” “I feel like this is more organic,” he says. “I really have a hard time with this hyperbolic, just-add-water system we have in America now,” with the promise that, “Okay, we’re going to audition you and run you through the wilderness, and in 13 weeks you’re going to be a star.”

The jam is produced by Basement Batman.
