D’banj, MI, Tuface and P Square brought home the Zain MAMA Awards from the just concluded 2nd edition, held at the Moi International Sports Center, a multipurpose stadium in Kasarani, outskirts of Nairobi Kenya . And Broadway came to Nigeria, in colors as unforgettable and familiar as our motherland.
On the 19th of September 2009, Aboriginal productions delivered it’s first child on the Muson Center,Lagos stage. The progeny was called Oluronbi (The Musical). With two different shows catering to an audience of over 700, a newborn was introduced to the world. The clear-cut story was humorous and the language well understood. Here’s a review.

RIMZ and BEATZ is based on a unique concept that combines cars, bikes, music and entertainment all in one fair. The show is an outdoor exhibition of vehicles which have been modified to reflect the owners’ personalities. The show was supported by the Nigerian Police Force and the National Road Commission. Sponsors include: Bluefield Partners and Services Limited, Reid, AdCity, Cruise, RimzTv, Chanchagi Airlines and Dynamix Magazine. Performances by MI, Modenine, Shank, Jesse Jagz amongst others.

The SoundCity Crew hosted Lagos, and by extension, Nigeria to this year’s Souncity Music Video Awards. The venue was the Eko Hotel’ Expo’ Center. As expected, the crowd was massive with performances by Wizkid, Banky W, Eldee The Don, Mims, Jozi, Seun Kuti, The Mo’Hits crew and Wyre. The red carpet arangement was wow ! but processing the crowd took too long so the show did not start until late at night.

TARUWA is a bi-weekly event (every second Tuesday) hosted by Gbagyichild, spearheaded by the wonderful Lydia Idakula. It is an event which creates a platform for artistes to express themselves in an intellectual setting. Taruwa holds at The Black Pearl on Akin Adesola, Victoria Island from 7pm to 9pm. We have a lot of fun and we have had guest artistes in the house.

Saturday, July 11th 2009. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was at the Silverbird Galleria, Lagos, Nigeria to promote her new book, The Thing Around Your Neck. Published locally by Farafina Books, The Thing Around Your Neck is a collection of short stories exploring the ties that bind men and women, parents and children, Africa and the United States. Searing and profound, suffused with beauty, sorrow, and longing, these stories map, with Adichie’s signature wisdom, the collision of cultures and the deeply human struggle to reconcile them.

Upscale night-club Volar hosted Nigeria’s emerging female rap superstar Kel to a come chop, oops ! we meant Pre-Album launch party. Kel’s album titled The Investment is set to drop on the 22nd of June, 2009. Opening to a packed dancehall, Volar saw appearances by Banky W., Eldee The Don, Shank, Skills, and a host of other entertainment bigwigs. Kel did not diappoint with her perfomance, the crowd went wild and the security had to form a wall to shield her. Banky W, Eldee, Shank and Skills also performed.
