Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, Jamila B. was always surrounded by music. Within her short career she has opened for the Clipse, Choclair, and the legendary Ink Spots. With only a mixtape added to her name, Jamila is constantly doing shows locally and is ready to expand. Saturday mornings as a child consisted of music blaring which ranged from the likes of artists such as Keith Sweat and Bobby Brown with their new jack swing style, pop divas like Mariah Carey, The Gap Band for the funk fix and reggae. Jamila also includes Aaliyah, SWV, TLC, and Robyn as her main influences for her R&B/Pop sound.

It wasn’t until Jamila B. hit the age of eleven that she decided she wanted to be a singer. After a string of short-lived girl groups, Jamila decided that being a solo artist was best for her. She also began song writing for herself. After high school, Jamila bumped into an old childhood friend named, Kwabe, who got her into the studio. Other local rappers started to hear more about her and soon she was joining them on stage. For most of the time, Jamila was the only R&B act on the bill.

Jamila B. considers herself a left sided artist and likes to experiment with different styles. She describes her sound as 90’s R&B with a modern twist which pays homage to new jack swing. She is currently promoting her debut single, “Gamers Love” and will be releasing her first video in the late winter.
